Barwell House
Barwell House is a former local authority-owned, four-storey building on the southern side of Chester Street, Tower Hamlets, London.
Brooks Murray were asked to design an additional eight flats by extending the existing building. The proposed accommodates these in a range of sizes; 2 x studios 3 x 1-bed 1 x 2-bed and 2 x 3-bed apartments.
Barwell House is a simple red-brick building, accommodating twenty-four flats, most of which are in private ownership.
Mindful of the concerns of existing residents, proposals introduce a lift to the building for the first time, making the upper floors wheelchair accessible; clean and strengthen the façade; introduce a children’s play area and secure bicycle storage; and remove unattractive roof telecom masts and redundant chimneys.
