40 Lowndes Street
40 Lowndes Street is a large terrace house situated within the Hans Town conservation area in west London.
Brooks Murray were commissioned to restore the stucco frontage, extend the house to the rear and repair the bomb-damaged back of the building.
A charming terrace house in Belgravia, its ground floor had at one time been unsympathetically converted to office use.
Asked to bring the building carefully into the twenty-first century and extend its use as a family home, the Brooks Murray team designed a mews extension to the back, opening space for contemporary facilities, family and staff areas. Designed and built using traditional London Stock brick, this comprised a series of setbacks to sensitively treat neighbours.
The work also included structural repairs, entirely new mechanical and electrical services, plaster and fibrous mouldings, and a new layout which provided en-suite bathrooms to all five bedrooms.
